Baker Library Tour

Baker Library, in Baker Library | Bloomberg Center, is the largest academic business library in the world and one of several dozen libraries at Harvard. Using funds donated by George F. Baker to build this campus, Baker Library was dedicated in 1927. A renovation was completed in 2005. Facilities are handicapped accessible.  This image shows the North Entrance.

North Lobby

The North Lobby is more than an entryway. Regular exhibitions curated by Special Collections provide opportunities to learn more about HBS and business history. On the walls hang portraits of every HBS Dean since the School's founding in 1908. 

South Entrance

Baker Library has outstanding contemporary and historical collections in business and management, rare books, and the HBS archives. Use the library's website to conduct research for program assignments, your business, and career and professional development. Questions? Ask Us. 

The Exchange

The Exchange, in the south lobby, is space available to meet with colleagues, study, or take a break. Bloomberg, a powerful financial markets information database is available here. 

Stamps Reading Room - Services

The Stamps Reading Room, on the 3rd floor, is the physical hub of services for participants. We are available to assist with exploring industries, competitors, market trends, management practices, and more.  Ask Us.

Stamps Reading Room - Collections

Use the library’s webpage for your program to access databases with business and trade publications, financial data, and other information using your HBS login. The HOLLIS catalog includes details about Harvard's collections. Contact library staff for assistance locating materials. 

Stamps Reading Room - Fun Facts

The Reading Room layout and fixtures are as they were when constructed in 1927. Dances were held here until the 1940s, and HBS exams were held here until the 1990s, when students began using laptops.  The bell on display is from a locomotive, and was donated as part of the Railroad Historical Society's collections.

Annex

Adjacent to the reading room is the Annex, a collaborative study area. This is a great place to work with a group - there's a large meeting room. Or you can take a phone call or have a Zoom meeting in one of the individual meeting rooms. The elevator to the stacks is located here too.

Stacks

A significant number of books and older issues of magazines, newspapers, and statistical publications are kept in the Stacks. There is quiet study space, a HOLLIS catalog search terminal, and project room containing equipment for viewing/digitizing microformats. A single-person restroom is located in the space as well.

de Gaspé Beaubien Reading Room

Special Collections’ de Gaspé Beaubien Reading Room, on the 1st floor, is used by scholars from around the world conducting research in the Library’s renowned collections of corporate archives, rare books, School records, and manuscripts dating from the 14th century. 

Stock Exchange

Post-15, a Depression-era New York Stock Exchange trading post, is on display in the tunnel beneath Baker Library. The horseshoe-shaped post has brass frames, oak counters, and leather seats. The top portion held price indicators, which were changed to indicate the most recent sale price of each stock traded there.
