Digitized, born-digital, and/or ingested content (hereafter Digital Collections) is made accessible online for purposes of education and research. Because special collections consist of materials generated or collected by numerous creators that document large numbers of people, Baker Library Special Collections and Archives is not always able to identify rights holders for the content it makes available.

Baker Library Special Collections and Archives make the best effort to adhere to all known copyright and rights of privacy, publicity, or trademark of the materials in its Digital Collections. If you hold the rights to materials in our Digital Collections, please let us know so that we can maintain accurate information about our holdings.

If you are a rights holder and are concerned that you have found material made available by Baker Library Special Collections and Archives for which you have not granted permission (or is not covered by a copyright exception under U.S. copyright laws), you may request the restriction of content or its removal from our Digital Collections by submitting a notice, with the information outlined below, to specialcollectionsref@hbs.edu or:

Please include the following in your message:

  1. Identification of the material and information sufficient to locate it;
  2. Your contact information, such as an address, telephone number, and email address;
  3. A statement that you are the owner, or authorized to act on behalf of the owner, and an explanation of any claims to rights for the material;
  4. A statement that the information in the message is accurate and made under penalty of perjury; and
  5. Your physical or electronic signature.

Baker Library Special Collections and Archives staff will review the request for just cause. Upon determination of just cause, the item or items in question will be removed from public view until the request is resolved. Depending on the library’s findings, Baker Library Special Collections and Archives may restrict access to the materials in question or remove them from its systems. Removing the materials will result in the library ceasing to provide long-term preservation resources to the content. After the review process is complete, the Manager of Public Services will communicate its findings to the requestor and the claim will be saved as documentation of the library’s decision.
